Music for Babies

They say that if babies listen to classical music, they will become smarter. This is false. Classical music does not have such effects on babies or toddlers. It is the exposure to music which actually improves the mental development of a child. The same goes when you read a story to your child; he/she develops his/her language skills.

Some say that listening to any kind of music help babies recognize sound patterns. Brain stimulation at an early age helps develop a person's skills in logic and understanding. In fact, research claims that any stimulation (e.g., listening to any types of music and stories) will increase spatial reasoning. This is the brain function used to understand math, science, and engineering.

So it is not only the child's creativity that gets developed when he/she gets music lessons, he/she also gets the benefit of being smarter because his/her brain is stimulated at an early age. No wonder most parents not only focus on teaching ABC's and 123's, but also have their children take music lessons as soon as they are ready.

Learning music requires a child's full concentration. So, it not only cultivates their natural talents, it also teaches them discipline. It introduces them to different types of music, allowing them to choose which ones meet their preference and style. As long as there's interest, learning music is very easy.

Practicing to be better is one way discipline will be instilled on them. Their focus and concentration skills can also be developed depending on how often they train.

To get the full benefit of music's effects on a child's brain development, lessonsshould come from qualified instructors. Also, focus should center on the child's instrument of choice. The focus could be on dancing, singing, or even playing an instrument. Each will have a different effect on the child, but you can rest assured that it will have many long-term benefits.

Of course, your son or daughter won't instantly become a musical genius if you expose him/her to music at an early age. A child's skills need to be developed and honed as he/she grows. This means getting proper direction from great music teachers. Knowing the theory behind music will cultivate their skills as performers.

More than just entertainment, music is a venue for people to express their creativity. Musicians become great when they're able to express human emotions through the patterns, styles, and structures of music. Great music creates a connection between the artist and the audience. Great songs and performances reach deep into our sub consciousness, reminding us of a memorable experience. This is the true power and skill of a great musician.
